Ancient Venetian floor finish recipe
A popular and luxurious flooring choice for large spaces,
such as ballrooms, hallways, dining rooms, reception rooms, lounges, etc.
This Ancient Venetian recipe consists of
- lime binders,
- pozzolans (volcanic ashes) and
- earth pigments, such as cocciopesto powder (crushed tiles and bricks),
resulting in a highly breathable lime mix, which is strong enough to last for many decades or even centuries.
The elastic nature of the Pastellone Floor makes it suitable for applications on wooden beams or suspended timber floors (when combined with the Massetto Caldo lime floor screed.)
It is well-suited for underfloor heating systems and is a popular choice for large spaces, including ballrooms, hallways, dining rooms, reception rooms, and lounges.
This flooring option is also trending for green building projects.
The colour palette
You can choose from a wide colour palette of 24 standard colours, including white.

How to make a Venetian, Pastellone hard lime floor finish
4 tips for application
1
Mix the powder with clean tap water only, without any others materials or additives, till you get a homogenous creamy consistency.
2
Apply the Pastellone floor finish in two thin coats, ensuring a smooth and even surface.
3
Polishing: Apply pressure to the floor, which brings out this lovely Pastellone pattern and prevents the floor from developing cracks.
4
Optional. Once the floor dried apply linseed oil for even more shine, extra water protection and ease of cleaning.
For optimal results, ensure the ambient temperature remains between +10°C and +30°C during application. Avoid walking on the floor for approximately one week after application.
