Interesting facts

This waterproof lime plaster is an original recipe from the Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius Polio.

Vitruvius describes in the Ten Books on Architecture (De Architectura) how to use a certain volcanic material from Mount Vesuvius for turning lime durable and completely waterproof. He had perfected his recipe until he could build seaside docks, roman baths, or seal The Colosseum in a way that it could host “sea battles.”

After long research, our Italian partner Naldo Busato, Venetian Building Restoration Master, together with the Polytechnic University of Milan, succeeded in recreating the original Roman recipe. The resulting building material is available under the name of MGN Rinzaffo Roman Waterproofing plaster.
